Thanks for the tip....After I initially got no sound, I thoroughly excercised the L-pads, tried my best to spray Deoxit in them, etc. No sound.
Then I got out my trusty ohmeter (like I should have done to begin with). Both tweeters read completely "open", even when using the Mega-ohm range. I would expect that these tweeters would have a resistance of something below 10 ohms or so. But I have no doubt that the voice coils are open.
One super tweeter is also bad -- I swapped between speakers to verify, etc., while using an audio generator to output a 12.5kHz signal. One super tweeter dead, the other sings like a bird! But the super tweeter part number (HP-015A) shows up all the time on eBay; I just need to get one.
Any ideas on the "A" vs. "B" or "C" versions of the tweeter?

Suprisingly those speakers sound very very good and I was shocked. They are supposed to be a refined remake of the jbl 100 speakers I think but they have a ribbon tweeter and I would just get some good used tweeters on ebay that are original type..You dont want to mod the crossover but you want to use better caps such as take out any electrolytics or non polars and put in polys of the same value..You can bypass with .1 pios if you want and that refines the mids and highs a bit. Also pack a little more insulation into the lower cavity of the cabinet and that improves dampening.Good luck and even if you have to spend a 100 or 150 or so,do it because they are a nice speaker.
I agree with Michael. I am a fan of the HPM series. They are well worth the effort to get playing.
I would suspect any of the tweeter models listed would be OK.
I have a spare pair of tweeters (not the HPM supertweeters) for my HPM-900.
About the HPM-100. Awk!! CRS, I've forgot his name, but the JBL designer of the L100 was hired by Pioneer and designed the HPM-100 as a "super L100". I agree with that. I love my L100 Century's, but the HPM-900 (a better balanced and more refined HPM-100) are just that much better overall.
was the gentleman's name.
I've got a pair that I'll never use.
Please email me about your HPM woofers!
Thanks.
I have a pair of HPM-100's that I am currently restoring. Have some spare parts and tweeters. Those tweeters were the same electrically, but slight appearance differences. I am upgrading mine with HPM-900 tweeters.
The supertweeters don't add much. The HPM-100 is what I call the 'macho speaker' - not for wimps. They were heavily advertised in Playboy magazine in the 70's and you can see why.
Supposed to be BIG and sexy. Surprisingly subtle, but colored sound.Quien es mas Macho?
