Just picked up a Marantz 6350 turntable at the local thrift for $5. This is my 1st experience with a direct drive table. It doesn't seem to be able to keep a steady speed. On a belt drive table, I'd change the belt, & lube the motor, what should be done on a DD table???

DeOxit. I did this on my 6320 and it fixed the problem.
has the manual & schematic for a 6300. Might be similar enough to get an idea where the problem may be.
Enter quartz into the Vinyl forum catagory's Text-to-Find box & follow the discussion thread represented by the 6th return.
In this case, search for another table; you only risked $5 for the trial. There is something wrong with the servo or quartz control circutry which you cannot easily fix (and that is WHY it was at the thrift in the 1st place). If the speed just was not correct, an adjustment of the motor potentiometer on the bottom (under a peel-off sticker) to center the pitch controls on top might be in order. But if the speed constantly vavers up & down, it is toast (no simple capacitor or resistor change-out is gonna fix it). And if it were by chance an imported foreign market 50hz unit, it ain't gonna work on USA 60Hz either. Despite being old & thus vintage, realize the more-specialized Vinyl forum catagory & Vinyl section of the FAQ apply (do not overlook that source of info).
