I picked up my pair of W90 speakers in the middle 80's and they were given to me in rough shape. I rebuilt them with my father and they were the first Wafedales I had ever heard. The person who gave them to me had not head them. He thought the woofers were blown but they turned out to be miswired. I had no preconceved notions about the speakers.-First, to assume that you're not a lemming also is very presumptuous of you.
Must you be like that?
-Do you want to buy a complete set of W70 drivers with x-over for say $250.
I don't pay a lot of money for anything I buy. My current Spendor BC-1 speakers cost me $100 and that is much more than I usually pay for equipment.

Of course not and yet you recommend to others that they should spend money based on comparative recollections of stuff that happened more than twenty years ago. For you, Bold, and Brian to encourage others to spend their money when it's pretty clear it will be lost if the suggestee's opinion does not match yours is pretty unfair and it's usually the only reason I jump in here. Other than to say "good score" when someone finds Tannoys in the dumpster.
Not sure where in the Wharfedale threads you see me telling anyone to buy something. This hobby is not just about spending money and selling whatever you bought for more. The best expectation unless you are a dumpster diver or bargain hunter is that if you pay a fair price and for some reason you sell, you probably will get a fair price. There are almost no guarentes in this hobby as to recouping costs save maybe for older McIntosh equipment. Some stuff has a price way below value in relation to other items but it is not necessarily about quality but as to what is a hot collectable. Many times there is no relationship.
I previously asked about your industry expereince as you used it to justify you opinion but dismissed it. As your only qualification appears to be that for a decade you made money selling audio and have chosen not to expand on this not offered anything logical or showed any experience in the matter I'll simply discount you as someone who may have been a sharp salesperson who made money by unloading low-end dribble on unsuspecting persons.
As for qualifications; I'll match mine any day to yours. When you come close to mine maybe I'll give some credence as to what you have to say. Until then I'll consider you just a troll.
Wow, you really disappoint me. Something a little juicier than just being a successfull salesman might have been fun. Connect me to Bose or something next time. There are two reasons why I didn't reply to your attempt at trolling.
1. Your opinion of me is irrelevant, at least to me.
2. My opinion is based on current fact and nothing more. The market clearly thinks your valuation of warfedale drivers is incorrect so I was merely warning the original poster of that.
I still have got to clean out a space so I can get those Tannoy's up and running. And I'll have to rig up some kind of cabinet or baffle for them too...
I ALSO found (no, not at the same time) a single General Electric 1201A Wide Range Loudspeaker. Seems to be a 12" "Full-range" driver...claims 50-13,000 cycle response...14.5 oz Alnico5 magnet. Made in good ol' Syracuse NY. sounds pretty good...
I've been very lucky with my finds but those Tannoys are one lucky find. I'm jealous!
I have no experience with Warfdales, so I have no knowledge or opinion to impart on them. I did have a pair of Leak Sandwich speakers once, those were unusual...

I still own W90's and W60's. Both are set up and I play then regularly (moreso the W90's).

I can only give my opinion. Take it or leave it. I don't now how I could speculate what another persons opinion would be on equipment they has never heard. Buy at your own risk! I never tell people to spend a lot of money, in fact I encourage just the opposite. I'm in vintage because I don't want to pay a lot of money!
