Hi all,I'm thinking about combining a NAD c160 preamp w/ a Citation 12 and would would like to use the pre's switched outlets to power on the citation. I've heard that most preamps switched outlets can't handle poweramps, so I was wondering if there is a workaround or if possibley the c160 will do fine. The only reason I am going modern on the preamp is for remote control convenience.

I strongly recommend NOT using the preamps outlets.
i just purchased a belkin pf 31 pure av line conditioner and surge protection unit to avoid this very problem. i hook it up when i return from albuquerque on sunday.
You are correct about the limited capability of switched convienence outlets. Setting a relay up so the switched convienence outlet controls the coil and the contacts control power amp "juice" is easy enough. However, that's not good enough. You should delay application of "juice" to the power amp for a while, when starting the rig up. Also, the power amp should be turned off before the preamp, at shut down time.Do you want to get involved with delay circuitry, self latching, and a power amp shutdown push button? At power down time, you'll have to walk over and hit the button.

Hi there.Check the power consumption of the power amp, then look at the "maximum load" of the switched outlet on the back of the preamp. If the power amp is less than the maximum recommended load, you should be ok. I doubt that it would be, though.
Otherwise I'd be doing the same thing as you thought of. :-)
