I agree with you. However, I don't even know how to go about finding such things locally... I check craigslist, ebay, audiogon... and really nothing in my area (houston). I would almost *have* to buy used on one of those sites and pray that it works when it gets here. :/
Follow Ups:
The 7000 is much newer. I've never heard one but I have not personally cared for the sound of other NADs from that period.
Do you dislike the sound of NAD from that period because it is too cold?Anyway... I have been looking over the 7045 and the 7060, it is interesting that you mentioned them because I came across them earlier and was very intrigued. I have asked the sellers a few things about the condition of the units, If the 7060 goes for a decent price I might just get it... I mean what the hey, I may just love it. It certainly piques my curiosity.
I had not realised that there were any up on ebay at the moment. I would be cautious about the 7060. It does not look to be in great cosmetic shape, you have no contact with the owner and these ebay sale chains are not always good at packing heavy fragile items. If you know of a good tech, I would take a punt on this one:

It's right in your backyard.
As its not working now, you may get it for almost nothing.
With luck, you may be able to get it fixed for the cost of shipping the other one from California.
This was their TOTL unit and if working, those always fetch a premium if you sell it one day.
That is a link to the 7080 with the fried amp isn't it?I saw that, and yes I agree about the 7060 on there... I don't know a good tech though :(
Actually... Something is drawing me to this

Marantz 2240B that seems to have been restored... What do you think?I know people here like the 2230, but I have heard the "B" versions are better and the extra 10W would be nice. I figure if I am going to go vintage I should do it in style, eh?
...vintage Marantz route, I'd suggest specifically asking questions of the seller about any cosmetic issues and to ensure all functions operate as they should, no matter what the description says. Be sure to ask if all indicator lights (stereo, etc) are functioning; dial lamps are easily replaced. In that 22xx power range, I really like the 2238, the 2245 and the 2252. The 'B' designation may or may not mean an improvement in sonics or function to the listener; although, Marantz did use it to indicate that there had been a a chnage of some sort.
I like the phono stages and tuners in these units. They do vary by model, though. Have you seen this site (click on the Marantz button)?
Last night I sent a bunch of sellers questions like that... about lights, cosmetics, any repairs, maintenance, ect... I am hoping at least one turns out to be a good buy. I even found some listings locally with some units I might be able to go see for myself. Thanks for the site, I will definately check it out.
I am still keeping my eye on the NAD listings aswell. I am still up in the air as far as what I am going to do.
