...you like the classic NAD sound (I do) and the unit is reliable. Another option is a nice '70's vintage Marantz 22xx. Both can have an earthy, slightly warm, plenty of power sound; seems to be more sonic variation in house sound between the Marantz' than the NAD's. An H/K x30 or dc series or Yamaha CRx series receiver from the same vintage are also excellent choices; the Yamaha Natural Sound series will tend to sound sonically purer than the Marantz but you might prefer the Marantz or H/K if you like the characteristic NAD warmth. All to my ears, of course; but I have owned each of the above.

Thanks for the reply. I think I am going to try to get this one NAD reciever on ebay. I am not sure I want a sound that is "too" vintage. I have owned vintage seperates before, pioneer, sansui, ect... and vintage speakers. The warm sound is great, but considering my source material, that may not be what I am wanting.I envision a late 80's NAD to be the right combination... but I will check out some of the models you mentioned in case they have analog tuners. I would love an analog tuner since the stations I listen to (several public and university) are sometimes hard to tune on some digital tuners. They are cast without compression and sometimes use vinyl source material so they are worth getting a decent tuner.
I owned a Nad Power Enevelope from the late 80s and hated it. It was powerful but cold, and the output transformers sent out errant distortion from time to time, destroying my Polk Audio Monitors and a set of KLH 5s
...analog tuners; some better than others. Let us know if you have any questions about particular models with excellent tuners.I know you're trying to simplify but, just as a note of interest, I have a tube Sherwood S-3000 mono tuner run into a NAD c320bee, split into L and R channels. Music as it was meant to be heard!
Wow that is a nice tuner... and the c320bee is great too... actually I was kindof mad because the "BEE" models came out a very short time after I got my c350, and the newer "heritage" models seem to sound a bit sweeter.I am sitting here now even and trying to get my tuner to work with Rice University radio, with my crappy tuner I have spotty luck with a large whip antenna.
I still am interested in the vintage NAD, but now you guys got me thinking about saving my money and investing in a good analog tuner instead, but I don't know much about them. Haha... I intend to slim down the rack but end up interested in more components! Asylum indeed.
... to a 'new' vintage tuner ....An indispensable site.
I really do want a good tuner... I think the digital tuner in the receiver I was looking at would be a problem. The one I have certainly is, and it is probably similar to any that would be in any digital NAD.Found this link off the link you gave. http://www.antennaperformance.com/products2.asp?ProductID=46&CategoryID=1
I have a large whip antenna, but maybe what I need is this thing. The stations I want to grab are all on the lower end of the dial.
