Someone tossed out these speakers. Literally tossed them into a dumpster. Looks to me like they are Tannoy. got the crossovers too. Unfortunately one speaker got the cover over it's magnet bashed in, the other got a tear in the center dome. Both speakers DO work, however. The problem seems to be in the dual L-pads wired between the crossovers and the drivers. Those are shot. The speakers sound good, if a bit hollow, but then they need a cabinet, don't they?

imho that is eqivelent to putting classic uk car like a jag onto your porch to rust!!!!!!!!!
Several years ago I found a Wharfedale Super 12/FS/AL in a dumpster at an estate sale. It is electrically and cosmetically perfect, except for foam rot, and even has the original black sack. You know, it's a funny thing. I have looked in a lot of dumpsters since and have yet to find another.
Okay so they need a little body work. What a great find. I'd check that dumpster regularly.

treat them with the respect they're due. put em in some nice cabinets and laugh ha ha ha the fool that set them out in the trash.
Yes, I admit I have had dumpster dived for records, magazines and speakers. I did comes across a pair of EPI tower speakers, Bose 601? (the one with multi-directional speakers on top), Lloyds and Candle crap. The only speakers worth diving for was a almost new pair of Technics SBX505 speakers (one woofer blown, surrounds crumbling). I still have them and they are collecting dust in the storage room. Lastly, a pair of speaker stands which I gave to my nephew.
Hey, I just got out of Jail and went to get my truck out of impound and notice my Tannoy's are gone. Must have got tossed out of the truck during the fall. Honest.
Funny how the days events ended with a pair of Tannoys.Nice work!!!
gonna keep them and build a cabinet? i guess it's best to make sure they weren't stolen though, but maybe keep it on the DL?as longa s they work well, can you remove the magnet cover and take it to an auto body shop? they can fix it.
They are the 15's. I have only tried them briefly so far, both woofers and tweeters seem to work ok. the problems are cosmetic-the bashed in magnet cover as shown, and the other one has a tear in the center dust cap and has quite a bit of debris stuck to the sticky coating on the woofer surround. And the fact that both are missing the labels which I assume were stuck to the magnet covers (metal plates?). I guess the labels had the serial numbers too. So far the only performance issue is that there are L-pads inline with the cable from the crossover to drivers. One L-pad doesn't seem to pass any signal, and the other is intermittent. As far as cabinets, where the heck would I put them??--Matt

...a good rinsing of deoxit. I've completely revived L-pads that passed absolutely no signal that way.

You should CAREFULLY take off the bashed in cover and see if the tweeter has been damaged. If it hasn't, you can probably reform the cover, after a fashion. You should check continuity in both the woofer and tweeter for both drivers. It's a hell of a find, congrats.
the alloy magnet covers can be panelbeated and painted by a decent body shop, the only hard part to find will be the screws that hold the magnet cover on if these are bent; these're a strange British vintage thread ( BSF? British Standard Fine... maybe )A couple of the best speakers ever made; I own a pair of the 12" Tannoy Reds and they can be prised out of my stiff, dead, arms before I'd part with 'em; Well Done!!
but I went for the half eaten burger instead.
And this is true, earlier that day, there was a pickup truck in that dumpster. NO LIE. This old guy pulled up to dump some stuff, got a little carried away and backed his pickup INTO THE DUMPSTER! The cops came and they had to call a tow truck to pull it out. As it turned out, the guy had lost his license and the cops pulled the plates off his truck. I wish I had my camera with me to take a picture of the Policeman taking a picture of this pickup sticking out of a Dumpster. Luckily, no one was hurt. I think that guys driving days are over... I didn't see the truck go in, but I did see them pull it out. So later I went back to see if there was any damage, and that's when I saw the Tannoys...
I'm going to have to check the local paper for the Police report about this...
