Are those paper or aluminum center domes? If they are aluminum, then you can't replace them and you don't want to cover them up as they are the high frequency radiator and a heat sink for the voice coil. I know the D130 and D150 center domes are aluminum, not sure about the 120F. if they are paper, then Ron's suggestion works fine.
Follow Ups:
There has been talk about removing the aluminum center caps of JBL Drivers on the High Efficiency Asylum. Posters have claimed it improves the sound if you do not cross then to high. He will not need the high frequency if he is going to use them as subwoofers, but I have not seen the heat sink issue addressed. I doubt it would be an issue in a home environment but I do not know for sure.Dave
Hi,THanks for the post.
Well...bummer....cuz they are the aluminum ones. So I guess I'll just stick with them. Obviously they don't afect the sound, but they're kind mushed.
I thought they might be. It's not really a dust cap, it's the visible part of a cup shapped piece and the voice coil is wound on the sides of the cup. That gives really good coupling thermally and mechanically. The dome is the bottom of the cup and acts as both a high frequency radiator and a thermal radiator. The "cup" is hydroformed.Might look ugly, but it shouldn't be covered as it will affect the sound and the heat dissipation at high power levels.
