In Reply to: Bogen DB-10 power rating? posted by Joe Rosen on May 13, 2001 at 07:44:39:
I agree, it always amazes me when I go to any local department store and see rows of 1000 watt car subwoofers and 500 watt car amps for 39.95. I had a Sony HT reciever that was rated at something like 165 watts per channel into 3 channels and 50 or so into the rears. And yep, I think that it may have weighed at least 5 pounds, and that may be giving it a few. I remember when I first picked it up, I was amazed that technology had progressed to a point where they could put so much power and sound quality in such a nice light package.
Well, needless to say, I have learned a lot since then. Mainly that my Fisher 500-c practically requires a back brace to pick up, and that suites me just fine.
Needless to say, whatever the power rating of the little Bogen is, it sounds way sweeter than it will ever look, even though the look tends to grow on you.

Actually, one is a DB-10 (cool bakelite pointer knobs, skyscraper power transformer, hammertone grey/beige case, all octal valves, weird multipin speaker socket) and the other a DB-10A (ugly round plastic knobs with gaudy brass-plated inserts on long shafts, perhaps for cabinet mounting?, much smaller power transformer, cool hammertone case in a flourescent & eye-watering shade of green, crappier input valve complement with the mother of all loser small-signal valves, the 12AT7, proper terminal-strip for connecting speakers).
I guess I'll just have to sit around a few more decades and wait & see if I can find a few more to make a proper pair out of them...
