I liked the Sennheiser 414- I think that was the model
with yellow ear pads
great sound ; open air type
low bass output
but light as a feather
I could wear them - and still hear people call me
What does exist - like them now ?
I assume that old stock is long gone- and the yellow pads
are not avaiable - or crumbled into oblivion
suggestions ?

I bought a couple sets of replacement yellow pads for my 424 on line from Sennheiser about a year ago
go get 'em!BTW, i still use my $5 garage sale sony MDR-V6. enough bass to make you barf ;-)
I ordered a new pair of foam pads for my HD-414X's online, 11/15/05, at http://www.sennheiserusa.com/newsite/If you want to contact them by phone, their number is 860 434 9190
The pads were yellow, and the exact replacement for the old pads
I bought them for my sister as a birthday gift in 1980 and she gave them back to me sometime around 1985.
I use them at work. The ear foam has been replaced probably four or five times. At one point (before I had Internet access) I cut foam from some junk packing I had handy and glue-gunned it to the ear pieces.
Used them like that for about six years.

I'm quite happy with them, although I haven't compared them to anything else recently. Mine say "HD410SL" on them, whatever that means. They're pretty inefficient, but serve my needs.A while back, I found some black foam earpads at Radio Shack that fit them pretty well, though it was a tight squeeze. I'll probably order some new ones from Sennheiser, because those 'phones just don't look right without the yellow! I think the yellow extends the bass a bit, too! :-)

They will send you the little yellow ear pads for about $4.00. The pads are still in production.
That's what they did for me, and were very nice about it.Pete

They are still in production under a different model number #HD40 (I think?). The use white pads now, not yellow....too bad.
