Found a pair of Genesis 22s at the Salvation Army last week. Just refoamed the mids and passive woofer, reglued the grill, hooked them up, and ... wow. The inverted dome tweeter is incredible. Very, very, very smooth with wide dispersion. Could listen to it all day (and plan to). Especially nice with an old Marantz receiver I've got. Mids and lows are nicely balanced. Punchy and getting even better as the new foam breaks in. Anyone else running these old Genesis speakers? I've gone through a lot of old New England speakers from the 70s and 80s (ADS, Boston Acoustics, etc.) but never tried Genesis before. I'm hooked. What do you do for stands - they're an odd size and shape (medium large, shallow, wide)?

Sorry... That message number is not valid.
I have a pair of Genesis I's that I ran for a few years. A few months ago I switched them out for a pair of EPI 100's, which are very similar in size and sound. I love 'em both...Congrats, those are great speakers...
If you can believe it, I got them for "$12.99" for the pair in the Salvation Army Bargain Basement (where stuff goes after it hasn't sold in the regular stores. Cabinets in perfect shape. Grills intact (just coming unglued) but the mid and woofer literally had no foam left to speak of. One $30 refoaming later, I couldn't be happier. Beauty of vintage audio.
Those are from the late 80's. All the Genesis/Epicure/EPI speakers have the great frequency response, but yours and the others in that series actually have pretty good dispersion characteristics as well. The best source for information and even parts, if you can afford them, is through Human Speakers. I should say, however, that you made the correct response in my opinion. When you find them on the street, buy them. Because the foam is always rotten, they show up everywhere, dirt cheap. Nearly all the drivers are interchangable, as humanspeakers whole business indicates. I have used the 8" drivers in enclosures as small as 1/3 cu.ft. to as large as 3.5cu.ft. They have great bass irrespective of the enclosure size. If you experiment with the crossover into the tweeter, try to stay pretty close to the original design. Also, EPI/Epicures use a single cap (usually), but Genesis uses a series cap with a parallel coil (12db). I have had no success mixing designs. I don't know why.Anyway, check out Humanspeakers.
Congrats on your Genesis 22's.
I have a pair of Genesis 1+'s (same drivers as a Genesis 1, but in a larger cabinet).
They are rated 38-20Khz +/- 3db.
Great sounding speakers IMO.
The Genesis 1+'s are heavy....no tiny surround stands for them.
Home built a pair:
16 inches high, using a pine 4" x 4".
1" thick, 24" x 24" pine base.
1" thick, 12" x 12" pine top.
Stands weigh a lot and are very stable!
Good luck with your Genesis 22's and ENJOY!!
