I like vinyl and tubes but use new (pro audio) drivers for speakers. I use what works, either new or old parts. I would never use an old CD player though as advances happen very fast. I like vinyl best but will listen to CD's.I do think directly heated triodes and field cold drivers have the most potential. However they certainly don't need to be vintage.
I would list my equipment but everything is either home made or so modded as to make original brand/model irrelevant.
Follow Ups:
I'm using a Philips CD960 CD player that is fast approaching 20 years old. Still stacks up very nicely against most current offerings. I'll be sad when it finally breaks down (assuming that the laser assembly has already lasted far longer than it should).
My 20 year old Onkyo DX-220 just went to CD player heaven. It sounded almost exactly like my much newer and much more expensive Rotel. A lot of the "improvements" in CD players seem to be marketeering.I do prefer CD's over LP's.
" I would list my equipment but everything is either home made or so modded as to make original brand/model irrelevant."My DIY preamp is new but made with 1940s iron and tubes. I guess it is vintage ;-).
