I have to give it to you; you're a tougher man than I!! I have a place on Little Sebago Lake way up here in Maine. Lately we've been having wind that starts in the Artic Circle and doesn't stop till it hits my house. Wind chills are frequently in the -20 range. I watch the guys ice fishing and just shake my head. It's either love or insanity. I don't know which. The snowmobilers don't seem to mind, but the guys hunkered in the ice shacks can't be having much fun. Don
That's where I used to go in the 70s as a little kid. My Grandparents lived in Westbrook and we would rent a lake cabin for a week in the summer. One year we went ice fishing instead; I much preferred the summer months! Are you familiar with Westbrook? My grandpa retired from the paper mill, what a stench from that place!! Nice to see someone else who knows of the place.
My wife and I have homes in Cape Elizabeth and Gray (Little Sebago Lake). My kids used to call the SD Warren mill in Westbrook the "stink factory". It has since changed hands and no longer "stinks". The Portland area has changed considerably since the 70's. Not all for the better. Way too many people here. The real estate market has gone through the roof, and the cost of living is astronomical.I have yet to meet up with other local hifi buffs. Gotta love the internet.
I grew up in upstate NY and now live in Chicago. I really love Maine and actually proposed to my wife on a beach in Kennebunk. There's nothing like the crisp evergreen air and the salty sea-spray!
Better than a day at work, though, huh?I went into the office for a few hours and because it was a nice day finally, rode one of my bicycles in.
On the way back home the wind was in my face and it was gusting!
More of workout than I expected, that's for sure.
