I'm going to add a pair of Fostex T900a to my 15" GRF Gold Tannoys. New to diy, looking for advice on design. What frequency point, 2nd, 3rd, 4th order ect. Using this site: http://www.apicsllc.com/apics/Misc/filter2.html
With my Tannoys having 94db efficiency I'm going to L-pad the Fostex by 12dB. Thinking of xover point at 14Khz using a 3rd order design. Adice will by greatly appreciated.
Follow Ups:
I am not familiar with the Tannoy speakers from experience but I had Altec Voice of the Theaters for many years and I eventually added a small horn tweeter to augment the very high frequencies. I used a single cap (first order) at about 9kHz. The exact crossover point in your system should be determined by listening.12 dB is a lot to pad down in the crossover. I would consider a bi-amp set-up or tri-amp so you can adjust the level at line level. If you do pad in the crossover use very good resistors.
The Venerable Tannoys with their Compression driver are capable of Far More than the Err.. mediocre (and I'm being Charitable) Fostex can deliver.
Reconfigure yr Xover and the HF section will 'come alive'.. far Beyond yr expectations. Lotsa Info on this.. Find it.. it's a Skill testing answer :-)
Foster IIRC also makes them!
