It's a project idea that just popped into my head. I read an article about Red Wine Audio's amps being powered by Sealed Lead Acid batteries, and thought... hummm... CD players would be naturals for this conversion: one battery pack for the analog section, another for the digital section, throw in a few caps and shielded power wires and voila! Total isolation from AC!I'd be careful not to bypass the fuse of course, but I guess getting soldering points for both power sections might be complicated depending on the layout of the components and PCB.
I think I'll investigate further and report back...
Meanwhile, I'll entertain any idea, opinion, caveat and the like from the gurus.
Follow Ups:
It will drain the batteries fast, unless there are a lot of them. Maybe you could get it to work if you only listened to one or two discs a day.
How would you come up with the negative voltages?
When I converted my CDP to batteries I was surprised to find that the motor drew very little current relative to the electronics. But to run a typical player for a long interval requires at least a 50AH battery and two if you need +/- voltages.
