The posts regarding Vishay/Dale resistors with regard to quality are a couple of years old - either Vishay or Dale.Appreciate your input on the following resistors for a Tube based power amp I am building:
1) Vishay/Dale Metal Film: 1/4 & 1/2 Watt TYPE RN series (RN55D, RN60D, RN65D). For values between 374 and 1M.
2) Xicon Metal Oxide Power Resistors - 2 & 3 Watt Resistors. For values between 10K and 51K. Understand that Metal Oxide is preferred over wirewound resistors.
3) Xicon 5 Watt Wire wound resistors at 1K ohm.
Please advise - any other manufactures would also be considered.

What high quality, decent price resistor is recommended in the 2, 3 & 5 Watt range? The Mills look great ($$$) - but I need about 70 resistors ranging from 2,3 & 5 Watts.
Some are for the power supply, and other for the output stage (signal path).
Thanks
Jim
I've been using a variety of non-inductive or wirewound resistors from Mouser or Mills. Download the Mouser catalog and get familiar with the through hole power resistor sections. There are many choices there. Xicon, for me, are cheap resistors. One of my current favorite is the IRC lineup like the NAS3 or the NAS5. These are 3W and 5W metal glaze resistors and the AS are wirewound. Handmade electronics is one of my favorite vendors for these.
The problem is finding all the values you need from the manufacturer's you want. Mills has very limited values but very nice stuff. I like to mix up a few different types for my "sonic seasoning". I'd never go all metal film or metal oxide. I'd look for the IRC's first, the Mills second and even the classic carbon comps are nice sounding. With that combo I feel the sound is more relaxed/warm and not as analytical.
