DIY power cords, which connectors are better Marinco or Furutech? Which one have better conductivity properties for electricity? Or do they both do pretty much the same?Any ideas from the DIY gurus, trying to save me some money on some cabling needs.
Thanks, Robert

I have no experience with the Furu plugs, but plenty with P&S, Hubbell, Marinco and even cryoed Wattgate. All sound significantly better than stock plugs in my system. Cannot specify the difference between them, however, as I have not A/B'ed them on the same PC ever. If pressed, I'd give the nod to the Marinco (or the upgraded Marinco, which is Wattgate). When I changed my tweaked P&S outlet for a cryoed Furu Cu, well, that was an eye-opener! So I'm starting to warm up to the idea of swapping in their plugs too.
A lot of folks think the terminations are even more significant than the geometry and the composition of the cable. Can't say that they're not. So try the best you figure you can afford and be prepared to accept some and reject others.
Also, don't expect that they will automatically sound as good in every situation in your system. I'm not at all convinced that it's so...
I've just finished diying VH Audio Flavor 4 with Furutech FI-11M (Cu) male and FI-11(Ag) female. First impression is very low noise floor, more puch in the bass and deep. I just plug right in the system and i can't wait for the break-in..:) and i think it will be much better eventually. I also have Furutech wall outlet.I will replace the rest of my current cables (XLO Ref2 type 10A and DH Lab power plus) with Furutech plug.
The issue isn't really which one is better, but which one works better in your system. I had a Pass and Seymour in my system for about four years. I replaced it with a Furutech that I had broken in on my refrigerator for about two months. The sound was more immediate and there was more treble energy, and this was a pretty substantial difference. In my system, this just doesn't work, so the Pass and Seymour went back in. I haven't listened to the Marinco, so I can't comment on its sound, but in my system a $12 Pass and Seymour plug sounded quite a bit better that a $30 Furutech.
I recently shortened up the cord on my Monster Power strip. I cut off the existing plug and put on a Marinco 8215 ("Hospital grade"). It was pretty easy to do, the wires were color coded on the cord and the marinco plug. I also installed a Hubbell "Hospital grade" 8200 outlet. Cleaned all AC plugs and contacts with Caig deoxit. I was happy with the results of this 30 dollar tweak. Things were a bit more quiet and cleaner all around, and the most apparent difference was differentiation of the cello section with classical music. I long ago installed a dedicated outlet with the a decent quality AC receptacle, but the Hubbell was an upgrade. It grips the Marinco plug tight as a clam. Both these items should'nt be too hard to find and the price is right. I have read here that some feel the Hubbell outlets are among the best at any price, also some strong proponents of the Marinco.....I'll add myself to them. Hope this helps you.
Furutech has audio specific plugs, whatever that means...but they sound damn good. I have several Fi-11M cu male plugs mated to Fi-11Ag Iec ends. For $30 you might not beat the Fi-11M.My recomendation is to mate the male plug and the wall outlet (same mfgr). If you get Furu plugs get a Furu outlet. Try and look at it as a system rather than a single cable...
i assemble my pc's and have been a fan of DH labs power Plus AC cable - i have 3 of these cables. last night i installed a 6' length of Chris Venhaus' Flavor 2 on a powered sub, and have to admit Chris' cable has a tone i didn't think cables alone could impart. Over the next year i plan to slowly phase in his cabling...with no burn in whatsoever the cable rock'ed.
what i've noticed about the nice plugs versus the standard ones (Marinco, cheap Wattgate's) is the weight of the plug itself and the quality of the plating. mate a good plug to like kind wall outlet and you get synergy...
