I'm considering trying one of the EP 15A's and I'm looking for feedback from those who have been down this road before. Did this unit enhance the performance/sonics of your system or did it harm the sonics. How did your amp or integrated perform plugged into this device. I've read that amps perform well with this device despite the conventional wisdom of plugging straight to the wall. I realize all these components we deal with are system-dependent but anecdotal information is always good.
Follow Ups:
At various times I was either pleased or disgusted with the performance of my Exact Power unit. Like everything else, it depended on what the rest of the system was doing. Things like power cords, both from and to the Exact Power, could alter the tonality and behavior. Strangely enough, the stock cord is a good place to start. Go figure. Avoid filtered power cords with this unit.As I gradually chased down all the room problems and speaker errors (by, gasp, measuring them) and started methodically working on the electrical noise issues, I have found that the thing works as advertised. There is always more depth and more dynamics even. Low power amplifiers work great on it sounding both cleaner and more powerful. High power amplifiers tend to be a bit much for the unit and can cause it to switch in and out on transients. I imagine the bigger 20 amp unit would help there. Putting a balance power device after the unit is great for low level devices such as preamps and the like.
Give Me Ambiguity or Give Me Something Else!
Where you been? I've been fully converted to running the dbx on the top and bottom of my ML Monolith III's and was anxious to tell you how well it worked out (you are my mentor on this) but could not somehow communicate with you. I'm glad you are back. Speaking of power conditioners I recently got a Haley Running Springs (saw it at the show in the BAT and other rooms) and it is very nice at a very good price.
I had one of the early units. When I lived in the center of my city I had many problems with brown-outs and over-voltages. The ExactPower made a definite improvement in sonics. When I moved to the outer parts of my city, my system sounded worse with the 15a in the circuit. While I have a LOT of RFI and EMI in my current place, I don't have the delivery problems that the ExactPower corrects. I think this is why there are varying reports of success. The Sound Application filters work best in my location.
The ExactPower EP15A power regulator is NOT a full AC regenerator. It only restores the tops of the AC waveform via subcycle regulation.Any attempt at restoring full cycle AC delivery is a good step at reducing AC generated distortions, BUT there is only one way to regenerate the AC waveform accurately and that is with AC regeneration.
Balanced Power is also a viable option and one I highly recommend as it provides a high level of AC noise reduction BUT it does not correct for AC waveform distortions.
Here is a link that explains the benefits of balanced AC power.
Cheers,
