I have 2 white box type wire wound resistors in my speakers crossover. Both are 7 watt rating. Would it be safe to replace with a 5 watt round type wire wound resistor? the speakers are rated to handle 100 watts, but my amp puts out 60. I usually don't play them loud for long periods. I have been unable to find 7 watt resistors and 10 watters might not fit too well.
Follow Ups:
Ten watts is what I consider minimum.
I gotta ask, why R U wanting to replace the resistors? The difference between a 5 watt and a 7 watt resistor is negligable.
If it's for sonic purposes, then a non-inductive resistor would be a good choice but resistors R usually the last components to be changed out for sonic reasons.
Even still, here is a link for high quality non-inductive resistors.

I'm not really expecting any huge sonic change, but I'm replacing a cap and rewiring both drivers, so figured I might do the resistors coincidently. I looked at the ten watters you linked and they are way too long to fit. The crossover space and the speaker itself is small.
Not a problem.Resistors along with inductors are somewhat iffy when replaced in OEM XO's especially the inductors as the speaker "voicing" is quite dependant on the DC resistance of the inductor for driver dampening.
What caps R U going to replace?
Cheers,
The Alcap electrolytic with same (though the newer one is smaller in size but same exact value and voltage rating). I noticed the woofer wires had some green going on, so figured I'd do the Alcap and rewire the woofer. Leaving the inductors alone (I have no idea of their value and would'nt mess with them anyway). Then I started thinking maybe I'll wire the tweeter too. There is no board, everything is kind of twisted up together with a touch of solder at the joints. So I figured I might as well replace the resistors too while I'm at it.
