I've read on this forum not to bypass speaker crossovers (the sound while initially superficially "cleaner" is reportedly ultimately unsatisfying) . Is this also true of amps & pre-amps?
Follow Ups:
are you talking about bypassing the caps with a smaller cap, or just leaving out the whole crossover?
If you bypass the crossovers in most speakers you will blow up many of the drivers. Tweeters in particular usually can't withstand a full range signal and go to heaven. You may or may not need a preamp.
But unfortunately we are stuck with Amps, or the the only sound you will get from your speaker is a slight buzzing like a mosquito. If that's what you want, then enjoy!
Tucker: My amp is updated already but w. no bypassing. My pre is not and so I would like to rewire it and put in new caps. The pre is an old Audible Illusions IIB which sounds reasonably good but could- I'm guessing- be notched up a bit w.continuous cast copper wire & modern caps such as Sonicaps. Any feedback from anyone on there would be appreciated.
