Hi there
I have a few older Jensen (6 yrs +)Copper foil PIOs which are leaky a little .Is there a way to rescue them? I mean I heard that some people take caps out of their casing ,
fill (or dip)in oil and stick in the wood casing or paper and wax. Anybody tried to rescue expensive PIO's .My friend has four older production Jensens silvers (in oil) and was a little surprised when I told him that they won't last long (silver migration)If they fail (when they fail should I say ) can the silver foil be still used to roll your own cap?? Regards, L

Funny you should mention this, recently I tried to use an 0.47uF Jensen copper foil/oil caps that were in my spares box. It was significantly leaky. I tossed it, but the waste basket has not yet been emptied. I found two more Audio Note coppers .022uF in the same box that were trash, too. I also had a Jensen fail in situ when in use as a coupling cap; this was not pleasant. In sum, I have lost confidence in those parts.
Those early version AN UK caps are rebranded Jensens. I need to look at my box, never seen one leaky, but have not looked in several years. Never had one fail.
The quality of the Jensen caps in general seems to be very good from my experiance. No problems with al, Sn, and Cu foil PIO. The 4 pole electrolytics have all been great too.
You could understand why I am gunshy at this point. Yes, I am aware that the AN caps are re-branded Jensen. I bought them from Angela a year or two ago and had never used them at all. They were in a parts box that is not mistreated in any way that could account for their death(s). Yet I know they were good when Angela sent them out, because they tested them in order to match them for me, (i.e., no blame is assigned to them or anyone else).
I guess it depends on how many years the + is, but there are many oil caps over 25 years old still not leaking. I am wondering how close to the specified voltage you were running them? Jensen is a first class company and if your usage was reasonable, I expect they would warranty the caps.
"Jensen is a first class company and if your usage was reasonable, I expect they would warranty the caps."..Same goes for Audio Note. Peter Q. replaced my leaky copper caps promptly and without question.
