I am very pleased with my current Merlin Gerin AC home box set up, (I've posted regarding sometime ago).
I decided to give the Siemens 5SX2 10,000kA series a try, They are made in Germany and the clamps are made of true brass and copper.
I replaced all the AC breakers/protectors with those and broke them in for a fortnight.
Sound: Very tight all over, punchy bass, very extended highs, excellent clarity all over, revealing with plenty of details-slightly analytical, dynamic throughout the entire spectrum. GOOD!.
Compared to the MG's they're slightly less natural or organic and a bit harder yet more revealing.
A matter of preference.
Follow Ups:
The common point is the Merlin Gerin. I also tried it with different other products, and found that Mem Eaton’s Memera MCB is better for audio, than Merlin Gerin.
Though no experience yet with the Siemens.I live in Europe (230V), and I’m eager to what about US manufactured MCBs ?
I also replaced the normal 5A furse & switch with 5A one 5A Heinemann AM1 type breaker (US made) in my monoblocks, and I'm very pleased with the result.
Dear sir.May I ask what you did'nt like about the Merlin Gerin's sound ?
BTW, Picture wise, they improved my tv sets performance considerably.
I tried the Merlin Gerin multi 9, 32A/230V type.
It was a bit less organic, and more artificial than the Memera ALB321 MCB.
I have a separate main meter for the hifi with 5 spurs. Spurs are solid core 99.9999 single crystal UPOCC copper , and I’m very pleased with the result.
Hi. Thank you for the reply. You have a point there as for the' MGs' are a little on the artificial side, and as time goes by I feel they lack some low-mid texture and on the dry side.
Unfortunately I can't get Eaton products here, so I'm settling for another French made MCBs - 'LeGrand', which are far more organic sounding yet a touch colored and compressed, still very entertaining.
You wondered about American MCBs, I can comment from experience only on a 'General Electric' basic type which sounded very warm, with fuzzy bass and overall veil, Did'nt like'em at all.
A separate meter for the system..Now that's Audiophilia at its best, Maybe I'll do the same in the future.
