I would like to replace the IEC inlet (with fuse holder) on my CD player with a Furutech IEC inlet and a separate fuse holder (fuse 5amp 5mm x 20mm). My question: where can I find an audio grade fuse holder for 5mm x 20 mm fuse?
Thanks,
Gilles

Partsconnexion has some cyro Acme fuse holders thats reasonable, and then if the price of that is not enough to make you feel good, you can add a Hifi tuning fuse.
If your replacing the IEC inlet for increased audio resolution, it would be silly to use a fuse holder.Solder the fuse to the wires and then heat shrink the fuse/wires :-)
Cheers,
I'm just asking.
I've used lead free solder, which requires a lot more heat, no problem.
nt
No,(tried, even smaller than 250mA ones), Just don't apply too much heat for too long.
The only problem I can think of is the fuse metal parts resistance to soldering, You must use a soldering paste or something similar, and then test the joints mechanically by trying to pull the wires from the fuse. All'n'all not a very safe way to go.
To facilitate soldering , rough the suface of the fuse end with a file , then solder .
of the fuse. No?
Go for it.

....sheesh, use some common sense man. A 25 watt iron will do just fine :-)Cheers,
Seriously, just use the darn holder. And Yes, it is VERY easy
to dammage fuses by soldering to the end caps. If you want to make
a REAL improvement, then add an RF filtering AC module or an IEC jack
with integral RF filtering components. Commercial grade is the
way to go. Whatever you do, please, no $30 "audiophile" fuses.I really wish I could get some of you boys steered away from the fuse
obsession thing.Good Luck.
". Whatever you do, please, no $30 "audiophile" fuses."Maybe U should try one and get first hand experience before spewing forth your "opinion" :-)
Cheers,
I design gear from scratch --and no I don't play with
"wonder fuses", Quantum puifiers" or the like. Incidentally
neither does Vladimir Lamm. Maybe you should e-mail him
and let him in on the big fuse secret too.-T.M.

I bet U think cryogenically treating metals is "voodoo" as well......
Like I said, buy one and try it. Then one can make an informed observation/decision :-)
Cheers,
That makes a lot of sense!
Thanks kenster!
