Hi,I just replaced all electrolytic caps with Blackgates everywhere except in the PSU in my SS amplifier assuming the sound would improve, but it did not. The sound became brighter and thiner, the slight warm sound I liked disappeared completely. This is after more than 100 hours of burn-in.
Unfortunately the old caps were thrown to the trash :-( (big mistake, I know). I was wondering which other caps I could try to recover the warm sound I had previously, maybe Nichicon muse?
Follow Ups:
Personally, I find that Black Gates can sound too fast, but they're definitely not bright - they may just be revealing brightness elsewhere. They can sound thin, I find, because they cut out so much crap, but that's a good thing on recordings that can handle the revelation. The high-voltage ones (WKZ and 350V NH) are the best, very smooth and clear, but also very fast. Nichicon FG and Silmics might be better choices for low-voltage solid state. I don't have a high-voltage recommendation; perhaps JJ? I've read that they can sound warm.
Ive found the Elna Silmic to be a smooth sounding cap. But try giving the BG more time to break in they are known to take a very long time to sound there best
