My post concerning the fact that the Accuphase T-101 has both Mylars AND Polystyrenes in its audio section is not getting thru!
They are not letting me post the proof. Given my extensive experience and expertease concerning the brand, I knew that I was right. I AM!
It seems.IIRC they made the T101 for long enough to change their parts / sources / circuits, to match.
I would never retain tantalum capacitors in audio stages - anywhere. Awful things. I saw them in a NFB/active type RIAA stage once, LOTS of NFB I'd bet! NNNPDrill!!
Part of how I 'do audio' is rebuilding/updating 'old stuff' - but it is for MY (listening) pleasure.
It follows that I began as one unable to get attached to 'originality' or become over genuflectory to a design OR brand.
One dickhead at the HJLeak group couldn't accept my mods of two St20's which ARE amazing, but for their iron and the chosen OPT tubes ONLY. My use of 6CG7's with a CCS as LTP driver splitters - for AUDIO drew particular ire.
Because these tubese are merely 'B&W TV flyback drivers' !!!!!!!!!! and ROTFLMAO. !!!!!!!! AND Pace CJ, HK, McIntosh, Marantz etc etc( ;-) )
BTA - I have not ONE single 'Audio' type bit anywhere. Teflons (milspec) and styros - WIMA, yep, I even tried silvermicas, but mostly it's WIMA MKP's. Even polycarbonate caps!
When someone offers me MKP levels of neutrality, reliabilty, and price in a PIO cap, I'll try some but not until then.

'Still not saluting.'
This is a picture of the audioboard of a T-101. Does it look familiar? Also, do you really think that Accuphase would use Tantalums in this tuner if it compromised its sound? Have you heard a "Tantalum filled" T-101 that was sonically compromised?
I have been inside many over the years. I have yet to see one that wasn't terminated with an audio-grade Mylar, bypassed by a Polystyrene (as shown in the photo).
I agree with your not wanting to use modern "audiophile-approved" parts. I have yet to use one that is any good. The desire for an accurate AND musical component seems to be a thing of the past.
That board is full of tantalum caps, in all the positions previously specified. Your proof is your not helping you. Do you know what the film caps shown are used for? Not for the output coupling. The switch should give you a hint. So would the board stuffing guide, found in the service manual. All previous posts regarding tantalums caps in this model by myself and others are still correct.

BFitz, you are either completely ignorant when it comes to circuitry design and layouts, or a TROLL!
Nope, I have the service manual and board layout guide, will be happy to post it, it's quite easy to show/prove. Those film caps are used in the de-emphasis circuit, where precision values are needed. The switch shown switches between 50us and 75us. The audio path coupling caps are all tantalum, easily seen on picture you posted (if you know what one looks like). Just like we all said all along. All tantalum, including the last ones used on the outputs.
I reply only to check your misinformation.
Here is the T101 MPX audio Assembly printed circuit board page with parts values listed from the manual, along with schematic. You need to join this Yahoo group to get it though.

nt.
If you own one of these Tantalum-filled peices of rubbish, I am willing to take them off your hands for free. After all. I wouldn't want you to continue suffering by owning what amounts to the worst sounding and engineered tuner in the history of audio!
In fact, all Accuphase equipment is the cheapest, worst sounding, most idiotically designed pieces of trash ever foisted on the public!
I never said Accuphase tuners were what *you* said above. As previously stated, I own a T100 and love it. I just refuted your misinformation that said first, the T101 *never* had tantaulum caps in the audio path. Then you said it must have been an *early model* T101, and all later ones did not.
All incorrect information, despite your convincing words to the contrary regarding your experience with the Accuphase brand.
Then you start a thread under another name, post a pic showing all the tantalum caps, as a proof the T101 does not have them(!?) and repeat your misinformed claims. You need a bigger shovel? Are your lips around your knee by now? Then you call me a troll, and tell me I'm the one who doesn't understand circuit design. Hello?
Bob
My exact words were the T-101 should not have Tantalums in the audio-path (so what if they do), and maybe the first version did!I then posted proof that the tuner in question were equiped with not only Mylars but Polystyrenes as well! Something that you fool's denied outright!
