If the T-101 is full of tantalums and still sounds Accuphase good (my memory shows this to be correct), I wouldn't mess with it.The other Accuphase models employ audio-grade Mylars and Polystyrenes in the audiopath. All of their tuners are far more than the sum of their parts.
As far as other "upgraded" tuners beating the T-101, I wouldnt count on it.

The T 101 is full of carbon film 5% resistors ...Are they still in the later models ... did they switch to metal film or ....
No. Carbon film sounds better.
If the T-101 sounds really good with bargain parts in the audio section, think of how much better it could sound after a few upgrades.
