than just that,What - specifically - are the problems with reception of 'your desired stations',*, at the dwelling where the tuner will be listened to. Hills buildings etc!? * what direction are they 'each' in.
can you / may you erect a serious directional, and external /loft mounted FM Antenna?
What is the dwelling made of etc?
Believe it or NOT getting the best possible sound-quality - from an acknowledged 'good sounding' tuner / modded audio and RFI stages - for 'sound' - can STILL after all that depend a LOT more than you might on how much antenna you need / willing to get!
And a 'good' FM directional is also a GOOD CH6 TV antenna in the USA / - see the post about the FCC's rulings.

And yes, if I need to, I can mount an antenna on the roof of my 2 story home if need be.Thanks,
Aside from your room/set-ups effects, I think you can get an idea at TIC better than elsewhere. While some people who own modern expensive gear can't take me seriously, I would mention that I too own 'quiet cabinet', 'low diffraction', 'good sounding MFplastic cap' xover speakers, > 25 yrs since, and modernised if not MODERN valve amps.
It really IS my experience than an external and quite directional antenna, up high-ish with a good pattern aka higher selectivity is a GOOD thing for GOOD sound. IME right here and NOT for reasons of gain!
The station I listen to 80% of the time, and t'other one are both strong enough to quiet, though t'other is 8kw Cf 60!!!!! same direction / same-tower. So why, then? It's a HILLY city! Snuggled into the Australian Alps!
You're welcome to visit the URL below, which is NOT on my own site! saves me getting verbose!!!!
Hello,
I have already read through the tic site, and would like comments about what choices I have come up with for possible tuners.
I am not concerned as much with an antannae as I am with which tuner I purchase.
This thread was suppossed to aid me in choosing a tuner. Thanks,
Hello,
Actually, what I meant by "bad" reception is that alot of the stations I like are not that well picked up on cheap radios. Actually, I don't think reception will be a problem as long as the tuner has good sensitivity.
More important is sound quality.. I want the best sound quality from the base, midrange and treble. I want the best imaging, huge soundstage, and the best in realism. Thanks,
