thanks for all your replies ! I 'm living near Paris (France!) . But i recently moved to a new house on the "dark side of a hill" , where i mean FM waves are faded . Before , i pluged the 10b directly to the antenna of the block . Now , i don't see the Tour Eiffel anymore and am not allowed to erect a mast and ... no new antenna (people are afraid of cellular aerials issues !) So the only way to receive a no-hissing stereo program would be to add some gain to my diy-ed yagi .for those thinking that tubes in RF preamp are junk : GOOGLE "R390 Collins" ! Any idea about the 5842 ? (Eric Barbour in VTV -> 5842 tube dumpster ) cheers , Pierre

AHA! The rest of the story! Do you have an attic to stick your antenna in? Also, you may want to experiment with pointing your antenna away from the Eiffel tower and try picking up a reflected signal off of another building or a mountain or the Alps or something (kidding about the Alps).Secondly, european FM use preemphasis of highs starting at 50 microseconds, while US stations use 75 microseconds. So, if I remember correctly, your properly working tuner will sound bright. The three options are (1) live with it, (2) use one of those not-wonderful equalizers or (3) replace the right capacitors in the tuner, and then replace them again when you are in the states. That's probably not a bad idea anyway, because the capacitors are undoubtedly ceramic.
Antenna, as many elements as possible - directed directly to transmitter mast - up highest possible - these should be the keywordsI have a 10B unmodified (no changes made in the Deemphasis setting)- It sounds stunning with no lighter presentation. Very big and powerfull - with just the top end I find sufficient.. I do not think, that this tuner needs anything changed in regards to deemphasis)

Freddy
For sure, i can live without exact correct deemphasis , but with SHHHHHHHHHHH on stereo ! :-((((
There is no brightness due to the different de-emphasis because the corrosponding pre-emphasis determines what's used in the receivineg end. If both are applied correctly, it all adds up to a zero.
