Hi, michael w:My personal opinion is that Nextel is a dreadful substance.
I own a pair of B&W mini monitors from the early nineties which came with that sprayed-on garbage. They are also sticky!
Unfortunately, I do not know of a way to clean a surface like that and prevent it from becoming sticky again. You might have to remove the finish entirely and re-spray the cover with something else.
Many years ago, the tape turntables on one of my ReVox A-77 open reel decks started to get tacky and it was covered with Nextel. I used lacquer thinner and removed all of this crud, re-primed the metalwork and re-sprayed them with satin black lacquer.
I never experienced a problem from then on!
Have you contacted ReVox/Studer yet?
I would!

Thanks Richard.I hate Nextel coatings too.
A friend once had one of the original Escort Passport radadr detectors which was also covered in the stuff. I made the mistake of picking it up and the thing stuck to my hand !
I've sent an email to Revox, awaiting their reply.
Hi, Michael:Good luck cleaning up that Nextel! I heard that Nextel is still being used, though they supposedly improved its longevity--at least I certainly hope so!
Thanks. The only other snag was when the B760 was first turned on, after about five minutes a wisp of pungent white smoke emerged from the vents !
Turns out a suppression cap on the mains input went AWOL.
It didn't stop the music though, the Revox kept on working as if nothing happened.
;)
Also been in touch with my local Revox agent, next to useless !
They don't even have a service tech on staff anymore.
