Decided to try the Svetlana EL34s and Ei 12AX7s and AT7s in my JoLida 302B.In short: Pleasant! Thanks to Chris S., Eli, Ivan, Jim, Uncle Ned, et.al., for the prior recs.
The stock Chinese tubes had a slightly fatiguing, forward quality in the treble -- i.e. upper electric guitar strings sounded extra "ringy" and a bit annoying in my setup. These seem more balanced and easier to listen to for a long time. Didn't hurt that Uncle Ned is having a summer sale on the Svets ($50 for a matched quad) and the Ei AX7s.. I've definitely made less cost-effective, more dubious "upgrades" than that, for sure.
Follow Ups:
Yes, I agree. I have the same amp. Just wait until they settle in! (if they haven't already.)
I have listened to every amp in the Jolida line and can honestly say that the Svetlana EL34 is [most] peoples favorites and a good 30 days is needed to burn in the tubes and settle in the amp. The 302 will sound even better a few months down the road.
That is especially good news when you consider the price of NOS Amperex and Mullard EL34's.
