Another signal tubes auction that's now alot more expensive than my TJ/FullMusic Mesh 300B power triode pair....
Follow Ups:
I don't believe those prices. Idiots!I've got 6 of them, maybe I'll wait till next year.....it's better than investing in the stock market.
... somebody being exceedingly greedy and abusing (or trying to) crazy or clueless buyers.Herr Posingis is sort of known for his out-of-this-world pricing - most of the materials he is selling through his website
http://www.audiotubes.de
Have a look at his ECC88-page:
http://www.audiotubes.de/ECC88.htm
The so-called 'Telefunken' E288CCs are actually Siemens - no diamond bottom ones around.
If you are interested in contacting him directly - to enquire what makes him think he can ask such prices, his contact details can be obtained via the whois service of the DENIC (German Domain Registrar):
http://www.denic.de/servlet/Whois
His webpage is not following German Law on online services - it does not contain a full set of contact details - well, the whois does deliver the information to interested parties anyways - the rest is in the phone directory...

(Who is flabbergasted by the pricing - all the items listed can be had at a fraction of the price through other European sources - it is left to the cautious observer of the market, or the average search engine user to find these sources online (:-> )...).
MB,Not sure where you're coming from here. The dealer didn't set the auction's final price -- the bidders did. It appears he started the bidding out at $24 for the pair, and even I would have bought them for that price.

Quite right. But you seem to be blaming the dealer (seller) for the ending price of the auction. All he did was put some tubes up for auction...
Bill
MB, I think maybe you are misreading his site. I have bought tubes from Heinz Posingis many times over the years, he has always been very reasonable and honest.I do not think his ECC88 pricing is out of line at all, particularly when you consider one US dealer who restricts his sales, Tubeworld prices, and other dealers. The prices on HP's site are for PAIRS - considering that, they are high, but no higher than Ebay.
He describes the TFK E288CC's correctly - you will notice all other Telefunkens on that page are clearly marked ' <> ', while those are not. It's pretty obvious to me, he says that they are not diamond bottoms.
I had no difficulty finding his complete address and email contact information on his site. It took me 30 seconds. I don't blame him for not listing his phone number. It seems you have a personal beef with him, that's a reminder of why some private individuals don't want to put their phone numbers on a website.
If you are flabbergasted by his prices, that's ok, but you post here is very mean spirited and not entirely straight.
I've followed a few of his auctions over the past months and the ending bids are usually pretty competitive. Like that 'single' rectifier that sold the other day for $250 (or so,) one will find the 'strange' auctions from time to time. It's good to know that he delivers the goods...
Did you get the package?
Those tubes don't even look that great! I was eye balling the auction when it first kicked off and didn't even save it to favorites do to the tube on the right having that dark bottom to it. Sometimes you get lucky there though. I actually got some nice old gray plate CCa off ebay early this year from a guy in Germany for $45 for thepair and they tested new! Usually though I find the early A13 Siemens E88CC there for around $60 to $75 per pair if I am patient.
Hi - Don't let prices at eaby or any other auction site discourage you. Someone bidding $285 for this pair of tubes can mean several things. One of them might be that this is the first time they've seem them after looking for months and they might consider it a one time purchase so are pulling out the stops. Last week someone paid $127 for a pair of RCA 7025. Shop around take your time and you can usually get things for a lot less although tubes like CCa will still cost more than what most consider to be average. When I first used ebay in 98, I paid $280 for a pocket knife. Other sellers and bidders emailed me to say they had them for a lot less and even if they didn't have them offered the advice that I was bidding way to high. More than one even sent websites they had no affiliation with to help. At the time, I didn't know I could buy the knife on line retail for $90. I had bid though and stuck to my commitment to pay - no hard feelings. I learned something and that is to shop around, ask questions and make sure you understand what you're getting. Some sellers won't answer your questions or seem to avoid you. They might say they can't answer ten picky questions for a $10 tube, and there might be some validity to that, but if you don't feel comfortable - walk away. You'll find what you want sooner or later!
It is not fair to compare new production with NOS tube. Some NOS WE300B/300A can cost up to US$5,000 each !!!
$5,000?That's a bit much, don't you think?
The highest price that I found was 1/4 of that number.
That is the market going price for NOS WE 300A. What is the price of that in the US?
NOS Power triodes from the 30's WE 30OA/300B, TFK AD1/EBIII etc. are justified to sell for a 4 figure sum for both their collectible value, plus that they sound really superior is a bonus. But but for ME at least, I can't spend THAT much for small signal tubes. That was my only point. The most I spent *so far* for small signal tubes is around $45.00 each.
That is pure value judgement. But in term of effect on sound, in my own experience, the small signal tube usually has more impact compare to power tube.
For the same US$500, it is usually more worthwhile to spend on small signal tubes than on the power tubes.
Furthermore, the signal tube tend to last far longer as well. Many premium NOS small signal tube can easily last for 10,000 hours. I doubt many power tube can last for 1/10 as long!

----Your point well taken... I won't argue with that. In my experience the preamp has more influence on the quality of sound. It is the heart of the system (my phono pre at least). I drive my cd player with tube ouputs (no opamps) directly to my amp with vol. control. It's just that I don't have deep pockets for those prices. When I changed some standard 5687's to Bendix 6900's (These I can afford), it was like buying new equipment altogether.
Hi,
I just bought a pair of Siemens/Halski 7308 gold pin tubes from www.raretubes.com for $70 each. They are the real deal in original boxes, and sound absolutly great. They replaced Sylvania green label, and the difference was like night and day. The ebay guy's price is nuts: IMO
