I'm reading how Damping factor at load impedence is important in rating an amp. How does the Dynaco amp rate and is it's distortion and IM respectable. How does it stand up againt, let's say SS marantz amps of the 60's and 70's. Would this be an indicator of tubes being better overall then SS amps or SS of that time being better?

This is totally the wrong approach, looking at "specs" which have little or nothing to do with sound quality. Even RMS watts are a poor indication of how loud you can play real music on real speakers without audible clipping. We know you have a 70 and various vintage receivers, so why not listen to both and draw your own conclusions? IMO and FWIW, even a stock 70 is drastically better sounding than any mass-market SS stuff.
Actually I have no real intentions of replacing my Dynaco for a SS. I was reading on vintage SS amps and they make mention of Damping factors first THEN the other numbers, and I was wondering how the old Dynaco tubes stand up.I usually get sleepy when reading the stats on equipment anyway. I always felt most of that info was purly for sales and engineers.

Stats bore me too but FWIW I think the st70 is about 1% thd at 35 wrms, .05% THD at 1 watt, damping factor about 17. Mods to the power supply and feedback loop can increase the damping factor a lot.
where the specification section is.Damping Factor = 15
