I'm trying to restore a couple of 80AZ's. Some person (!!!) tried to convert these to triode and managed to all but destroy them. The person that now owns them wants them back to original. That includes the 'Z Matic' feature.I have two of these on the bench. One has two output taps (8 and 16) and is shown in Sam's 342. The other has three output taps. I can not determine how the impedance switch wiring should be. The 0.8 ohm resistor has had one end disconnected. The switch has the two wires going to the 1 ohm resistors intact, but I can't figure out the connections to the COMMON post on the speaker terminal..
Anyone have a drawing or a pix of this area they'd be willing to share? and allow me to stop calling the person that modified these amps hereditary K9 names?
THANKS

Hi Bob,
I don't have this electronically but here is the info,
try drawing it to see if I gave you enough info....The COM is connected to the Z-Matic switch (on-off) and
one end of the Z-Matic control (pot). The COM is also connected to one end of the .8 ohm resistor.
The COM is also connected to the "top" of the two 1 ohm resistors
in series. The "bottom of the 1 ohm resistors is connected
to ground. With the switch in the 16 Ohm position, only the
1 ohm resistors are connected so there is 2 ohms to ground. In the 4 ohm position, the switch connects the
other end of the .8 ohm resistor to ground (in parallel
with the two 1 ohm resistors.)In the 8 ohm position, the switch connects the center
of the 1 ohm resistors to ground but leaves the .8 ohm open.In the 16 ohm position, none of the resistors are connected to
ground (leaving the 2 ohms to ground.)Is that enough?
Editorial comment: The 80AZ is an outstanding amplifier as
built. It is downright ridiculous to convert this
to triodes. All of the K-9 names are well deserved!
THAT'S IT.. The "person" removed the wire (both ends)
from the top of the pair of one ohm resistors.I owe you.. Ever in Portland, OR, gimme a call and we'll try some of the local brews..

Hi Bob,
Glad to be helpful. I don't make it to
Portland much but if I do, I'll send you an
email.
