Mates,After gathering tube gear and a couple of years of tube collecting, I am ready to reduce my collection to the tubes and equipment that I think I'll get around to actually using. There are about four pieces of gear and 80-90 tubes of six to eight types, almost all NOS.
What are your thoughts?:
>individual Ebay auctions, which would involve 30+ auction listings, questions, packing, etc?
>Ebay auction that might contain several models of one type?
>marketing these as a package to another collector?
>marketing these as a package to a dealer?
On one hand, I don't wish to lose a great deal of the value of the tubes, but on the other, the many auctions to sell two or three tubes at a time would be time consuming and stressful.
TA! as always,
Bambi B

Still looking for a perfect SP-10 mkII. Let me know when you are interested in selling. I am in no rush since what ever I buy will most likely be my last pre-amp, so I want something that is pretty much flawless and maintained.

Hi Ms. B, I must admit I haven't searched other boards for your postings, but missed you here. Like someone else mentioned, I too appreciate all the ARC info you've shared. I finally got my refurbished ARC SP-8 Rev. 7 dialed in and my system sounding better than it did with my 'ol faithful SP-3A-1.I also made a little attempt at posting some SP preamp info at a site. I'm happy that you've found something you like and although it's hard to get your money back unless you were very lucky in purchasing, I'd suggest selling the lot at one time for the best you can get. Now that you have it, enjoy it! scruff
ruffscruff,Good to hear from you. I was out of touch due to moving- hell after 13 years in one place. It was moving that brought on a re-evaluation of which equipment and tubes I'll actually use- when I had to pack and carry everything, it takes on new meaning.
Besides about 80+ tubes, I'll probably be selling my SP10, D115, PAS3, ST70, and Scott 330 tuner as well. The SP8 will become the new centrepiece.
Enjoyed your web site, will look forward to future additions. Your SP8 looks great!
Cheers,Bambi B
I would take my time and auction them on A-Gon or E-Bay,Unless you know their market value. Why lose money on your collection?Could put more common ones in classifieds.Good descriptions save a lot of E-mails.Run a few auctions a week and relax.Whats the hurry?
Hi Bambi B,
I've been following your posts regarding tubes for ARC amps. I recently got an LS-5 with a BL-2 line driver, partly because you spoke so highly of it. I'd be most interested in any tubes that you feel would suit the LS-5. Kindly let me know if you are willing to part with any juicy ones.
Doug,I haven't been around an LS5 with other than ARC supplied tubes. As there are either 8 or 10 (depending on version) 6922s, you have a lot of options.
I did a bit of experimenting with the 6DJ8/6922s in my ARC SP10 and settled quickly on the Amperex 7308 and the Amperex orange globe 6DJ8. (But 6DJ8s may or may not be happy in the LS5.) Another promising 6922 is the earlier Russian 6H23-EB (the "EB" is important)- very nice.
If you could discover the key positions with the greatest effect on the sound, I might start with two very quiet and matched 7308s.
Cheers,
