Anyone know of a good website that would function as a Restoration for dummies?Does the large cap need to be replaced ever?
There is a transformer inside the case that looks like it might need to be replaced..but not sure.
How do I check/adjust the bias?thanks for helping this newbie=)

Sounds like you're new to this. Get a copy of thr origional manual. It explains a lot and will give you all the voltages and test points. You might try ebay. It also gives you some basic troubleshooting and component testing imformation.
BTW the thing inside the case that looks like a transformer is a power supply choke. Good luck and have fun.

Research is the answer...Use the asylum serch for "st70" and more spicific topics as you learn. Also do outside meta-serches using "ixquick.com or metacrawler.com (or equal..there are lots more)...for "dyna st70 mods". Change the search verbage for more hits...Good luck...Fred
The large can cap only has to be replaced if the unit hums or the voltages are off (see joe curcio's manuel for voltages and how to check them). Get a Digital volt meter. As a rule of thumb don't replace everything at one time, one step at a time. This way if trouble arises you know exactly what step it was from. DO replace the selenium rectifier FIRST, the jacks in front with radio shack RCA jacks and the out of spec parts on the driver board with carbon film resistors and replace all the capacitors. On the board most people have upped the capacitance value-please check with others I have forgotten the value (think original was .1UF and upped to 1uf?). If you have any questions post or email

Hi thereI am recently in going thru the process of restoring a Dynaco ST-70 too and have learnt a great deal from everyone on this forum ("tubes" and "vintage")
Just search for some of the threads started by "tankhinhow" and "navman".
My planned order of restoration:
1. replace selenium rectifier with a 1N4007 or UF4007
2. replace old power cord
3. replace the two 50uf/75v bias caps with new 100uf/100v ones
4. replace the quad filter cap (there are a few replace options avail)
5. replace the coupling caps on the driver board or better yet, rebuild the entire board with new parts.
6. new ceramic sockets, wires etc.So far, I have completed steps 1-4 and will be more than happy to share my experience with you. Just feel free to write me an email. I even have pictures to show which parts are which ... (e.g. which component is the selenium rectifier? etc)
I am not sure how easily it would be for you to get some of the parts in Singapore though.
.
Yup, this should be 'Step One', IMO.
