Hello again,Just want to see if anyone is using these tubes in their amps. I noticed that Advantage Tube Services has them in stock. Has anyone been using them long for I want to know about their longivity, break-in period, and how they compare to the Svetlana KT-88 and others. I have heard these are produced at a different plant than the J.J. ones.
Thanks for everyone's input.
Follow Ups:
I have tried these tubes in my AES DJH Superamp and to my ears, they are the best KT88, although I also like the Tung-Sol and Philips ECG 6550 better. The Tesla KT88 has a level of detail and clarity missing in the GEC, Svetlana, JJ, and Chinese KT88. Dynamics and bass extension are a little restrained in the Tesla as compared to the other KT88's, but soundstage dimensionality is on a par with the others. I have stated this before, but the GEC KT88 is a sonically inferior tube compared to their KT66 and KT77, and is grossly overpriced. It has a great soundstage, has good warmth and smoothness in the mids, but detail and low bass are missing in action. At least in my rig.
Best KT88 available. Durable, longlasting, and the sonics are, after a low 50 hour break-in 98% of real GEC. ATSI has some of the last ones on Earth, if you're serious get 'em NOW. They are $300 a quad... You might want to consider Tung Sol 6550-- no other tube comes close in this price range, though. They achieve what the JJ and Svetlana seem to be aiming for; midrange depth and texture w/o any glossing over of detail, and smooth, detailed (but not crisp like a 6550) treble. The JJ and Svetlana are good, but lack the detail and microdynamics, as well as the true 3d image of the Tesla. I have a quad w/ the copper base and I love them. I'm not sure if they are $200 better than a quad of Shuguang/ Valve Art KT88s if you are on a budget... but if you can afford them, get 'em. The next best alternative is the Svetlana. Chris
Hi Chris,Thank you for your input. I will have a quad on the way.
If you will allow me one more question does this Tesla make the 88s for KR?
Thank you again.
Yes-- this Tesla factory in the Czech Republic (JJ is in Slovakia) made KT88s that were sold as KR, Vaic Valve/ A V V T, Tesla, and an additional marque for the Hong Kong market that I cannot recall. They are a very nice tube with qualties not found elsewhere. Chris
Hi Chris,Thank you for your input.
I agree with the sonics, of the KR\tesla tube they do sound great, BUT, i had 2 quads for my Cary's, and in two months, i had 5 bad tubes!!! Maybe they fixed qc problems, but make sure you can return them or get credit......Paulie
