Just put 2+2 together and realized that CD#2 may have caused the right channel to go out on my Hafler DH200. After it went out, I discovered it was getting hot.
Follow Ups:
is that you've got 2 separate problems but I can't tell since there isn't much information to go on, here.Firstly, glowing plates on output tubes means you've most likely got coupling caps that are leaking DC. This is a common problem on old tube amps. Do not use it again until this has been fixed unless you don't mind a potential fire hazard or wiping out one of the output transformers. You should spend some time reading the tube FAQ to learn more about what all this means.
On the Hafler, I would also suspect some problem with one of the channels. I doubt seriously one caused the other but again, there is insufficient information to draw a potential conclusion.
I'd suggest you make friends with a local bench tech who's familiar with old tube and SS gear to help with your diagnosis.
Cheers,
Thanks David...
I would have suspected CD players with such different resistance readings (400 vs. 40,000) to possibly cause a problem on the input side rather than the output side. Probably not related to the glowing tube problem. I wish I knew someone who repaired this stuff.
This is my 2nd Hafler amp with a channel out. If I am going to use this old gear, I need to learn how to fix it.
