Right now my Quicksilvers are powering Vandersteen 2CE Sigs. We likely will be moving into our first home (alright!) and there might be the need to downsize my speakers. Not sure yet, but I thought I'd ask: is there another speaker any of you could recommend that would work with my Quickies like my Vandies do, but without that big footprint?I've spent a couple of minutes searching old posts, got lazy, and just decided to submit a message.
Follow Ups:
When i had these amps, I used vandersteen 1B's and they were wonderful. Much smaller, as well.
Although I'm currently using a pair of home brewed Dynaudio based speakers with my Quicksilver Mini's right now, my personal favorite speakers are ProAc's, and ProAc offers models in just about very conceivable size.
I thought of ProAcs, but they're just so bloody expensive! However, if I decide to get different speakers I likely will go the used route so maybe that's an option. Thanks.
No direct experience, but you might want to check out the Quad 12L (bookshelf) or one of the larger in the series. Why? Get ready for my logic... really out on tangent but hopefully makes sense.Quicksilvers are historically known to be a favourite match with Quad ESL 63's. I'm sure though you don't want that footprint either. I have ESL 63's driven by ARC D70. My son just picked up the bookshelf Quad 12L's and we subbed them in. They sounded amazing. Ergo the Quad 12L's may be on the short list of what you are looking for?
Over (many) years of reading I have also seen Vandy's and the Quad Electrostatics in the same sentence.
So given the similarities in sound, and what Quad has done with the small bookshelf to capture portions of this sound, you may give it some consideration.
Sound crazy. This is an asylum after all.
Hope that helps a bit?
I've actually never listened to Quads before. Might be worth it to seek them out here in Atlanta. Thanks!
I heard the largest amp with Monitor Audio floor standers and Quad 22Ls at RMAF and they both sounded good. I also heard them on some other speakers....in the Denver area, but now I have drawn a blank. What one hears from a system is so persnonal. I have listened to the same speakers in the same room at the same time with other people and have sometimes come to exactly opposite conclusions.
Here's a guy who says Dynaudios sound great with this amp. And other who says Quad 12L. There couldn't be more different sounds!
