I need to manually bias my tube amp even though it came with auto bias option I want make sure that my bias is set correctly manually. I read the manual and it states that the setting should be between .36 to .44 or (360 to 440) the amp is running EL34/KK-77 what is a happy medium setting for optimal performance? Do I set it at .36, .44 or .40? now I have a silly question, can I purchase a cheapo radio shack multimeter to do the job or do I need something that is better, if so, what type? Digital, etc?
Follow Ups:
Those numbers .36 and .44 refer to DC volts and yes, any cheap meter will get you close enough. The numbers are meaningless unless we know the value of the resistor that is developing the voltage and the tube plate voltage.

The numbers are meaningful for setting the bias correctly as directed by the manufactures instructions. As for the best place to set it within the prescribed range, set it at the setting that sounds the best. If you cannot discern a sound quality change then set it for the lower setting to maximize tube life.
It the numbers reflect the bias voltage, and not milliamps of current, wouldn't a higher number mean lower current, and therefore, longer life?
