I just acquired a PACO SA-40 integrated amplifier on eBay, and can't find much info on it. Has anyone heard of it? I haven't received it yet, but an ad for one on another site lists the tubes as (4)7189, (2)7199, and (3)12AX7. Owner says it runs fine. This will be my first tube amp, and I know to connect speakers before turning it on. Anything else I should do? Should I assume it still runs ok after shipping, or is there something I need to check (only have a VOM at this time)?
Follow Ups:
Thanks for the information and especially the Sam's idea. It is kind'a pricey, but worth it to me. I will call some libraries in the area Monday to see if they can get the folder I need. I live a ways out of Houston, so it pays to call before driving.
Paco, I believe, was a small Italian company and their distribution in the US wan't not large. They generally dealt with big-jobber-type component distributors for some reason.I installed many of their amps both tube and SS in background music systems for banks, doctors offices, etc, back in the 70s. They were tough and built ok but their main attactiveness was very competitive pricing.
Cheers,
I don't have it, but Sams folder 505-9 covers it - you library may be able to get it for the cost of copies.Coupling caps and power supply filter caps are always suspect in equipment this old.
