of all the 6SL7's you own? I'm trying not to buy every 6SL7 ever made to find the right sound..

I can give you a few options...
I own an extensive 6SN7/VT231 collection, so what I'm looking for is along the lines of:Smooth, warm detailing of Kenrad VT231 combined with airy sparkle and speed of Sylvania VT231 with a little bit of Sylvania metal base 6SN7GT midrange purity thrown in. I don't particularly care for seeminly-neutral, yet uninteresting sound of Tung Sol roundplates. I also hate the languid swamp that is RCA 5692 Red Base.
Impossible, I know, so I ended up using National Union Gray glass 6SN7, which I love for its rich, detailed, magically textured mids, but it could use a little more treble air and transparency.
I very much like the Sylvania metal base 6SL7W. It has great PRaT, detail and a very smooth high end, something like the best Amperex in 6922-land. I think it lacks, just a teeny bit in the soundstaging. Also, the Mullard tall-bottle ECC35 has great soundstage, a bit warmish, nice but not over the top detail.
My reference for many years has been the Mullard CV569. This one does almost everything right. However, since I switched over to cables with more silver, I am preferring the Sylvania and the FIVRE.
Also I have some 50s Valvos that are nice, but have not spent a ton of time listening to them. Hope this helps!
Not to interrupt, but I agree about the Mullard CV569/ECC35 tall boys and short fat-base. Both are awesome tubes, and are my long time favs. My 2nd favs are the 40s Tung Sol black glass 6SU7 (military spec 6SL7). A tad less musical, but perhaps more linear? I've tried about 10 different NOS types and always come back to the Mullards. You can also find them relabeled as Philips Miniwatt or also Valvo. Brown bases sound fractionally better than black base.
Have you heard the FIVREs?
No, that is one I have not heard. Can you post a pic?
