I have an Anthem AMP-1 which I had modified to run the EL-34 tubes in triode mode. The EL-34 is a pentode. The KT-77's (JJ) I'm switching to are a beam tetrode. The Anthem manual says I can use KT-77's but I'm wondering if I have to restore the amp to ultralinear operation before installing them. If the KT-77's can be operated in triode mode what are the sonic results? I far preferred the sound of this amp in triode mode with the EL-34's and I wonder if the same is true of the KT-77's.
Follow Ups:
I haved tested KT77 triode operation at B+ 450VDC, cathode biased in AB1, with 5K primary transformer. The results were quite impressive. There is excellent potential with this tube.
It will be ready for RMAF, room 1130. Don't miss it. RMAF.I don't know anything else. You'll have to contact Quicksilver.
What is RMAF?
