I'm looking for a decent matched pair of 6BQ5 tubes for around $100.They have to mate well with my JAN military GE 5670 tubes. Also provided link as to where I can purchuse them. Thanks

..try the GE 6BQ5 grey oval plate, mark 188-5, it will knock your socks off.
Could you provide link to purchuse,Thanks
Try Brent Jessee Recording. Brent is a good fellow and knows a lot about tubes.Be sure to get the oval grey plate with mark 188-5. Brent will confirm for you.

Also, the RCA 6BQ5 is a very good sounding and still affordable tube; a different character of sound - a little lean compared to the GE or the Mullard but very athletic and musical.
Still, the GE is king for me; I prefer it to all the European tubes. I hope you find something you like without spending so much money.
I discovered the GE a few years ago, through jimmy. I bought a 3 lifetime supply. I have far too many. If you need some extra after you decide they're for you, let me know. I also have 2 matched quads of the same GE in 7189 configuration.
I already bought some tubes from Brent.I got some JAN military GE 5670 tubes and some RCA 6BQ5 tubes off of him.Super nice guy. This combo sounds very, very nice.I quess was just suffering from the addiction bug in trying to improve on an already great sounding combo. My tube journey is over,I got off easy. Thanks
..and one can discern subtle aural differences in them. Some like black plates, some grey, etc. There is a notable difference between the character of the RCA and that of the GE. To my ear the GE gives a bit more extension on both ends, a "sweeter" mid-range, more pronounced bass.
As I said the RCA is a very muscular sound with great control top to bottom. I plug some in occasionally just for the change.
There's no need to spend $100 on "decent" pair of 6BQ5. Buy some Russian 6Pi14Pi-EB on Ebay. Just type that word in Ebay "Search" window; there's always some new ones for sale for like $10 each.Superb tubes, and I prefer them in my SE-pentode EL84 amp over Amperex, Mullard, Valvo, "regular" 6Pi14Pi, etc.
I don't trust anybody on E-bay thus the extra expence.
Jon is right about this being a fine tube for the money. And there are some regular and reputable Ebay sellers. As to his comparison to the European tubes, one must respect differences in opinion.
Fairbanks, I've got some of the Russian tubes as well - they are new. If you'd like to try them, contact me offline and I'll help.
