I'm thinkin' about trying a tube pre. with my class A SS amps. I'm using a Threshold FET-Nine with either a Threshold SA/3, Belles A-Mod, or Bedini Vintage 100 monos. I'm looking at a Kora Triode, ARC SP/6A (recapped) or a Quicksilver Full Function Preamp. Vinyl's important. Thanks for any direction. They're all within $100 of each other.

I owned and sold a Kora Triode. It was OK but not something I ever really enjoyed the sound of as much as my CJ PV-10A or PV-11. Plus taking off the case to swap in tubes to replace the microphonic 6922 tubes was a PITA for me on the Kora Triode. I would suggest saving a little while longer for a SP8 if you can. That will hold its value, and they are still in demand today selling from $850 to 1000 depending on its condition. Today I use a Klimo Merlino line stage with dual mono design and a separate Hagerman tube phono stage. Read up here in the archives on the ARC SP8. Good luck! John
The Fet-9 as I remember is very close to the Fet10e in sound but unlike the Fet-10 it was only one unit and not two.Its a really nice preamp and your sa/3 amps are very tube like as it is.An SP3b audio research is very good.
The FET-Nine actually DOES use an outboard power supply; I'm just curious about how a decent tube preamp would work. The SA/3 IS one helluva' great amp.
I have an SP6/c1 that I like very much with my ( I know, heresy)
