I see in a tread below reports that JJ KT77 pin problems seem to have been solved. Anyone compare them w/ SED EL34 in Dyna ST70? Any specific discriptions of the differnce in musicality would be appreciated. Thanx!
Follow Ups:
I've been raging over the JJ KT77 ever since I got my first quad. They are much better than any of the modern EL34's I have auditioned, including JJ's own. The SED's are second place in my opinion.
Ditto to musetaps post..He has found the exact same things that I have as far as the vintage xf2 and the SED el34 and the E34LS. I like the sed el34 and the E34L and the e34ls but now I prefer the JJ Kt77.Im glad Im not the only one came up with these findings. Thanks Muse.
I guess a lot of folks cant concieve the fact that the new tubes can actually better some of the vintage tubes and tubes such as the Shuguang GEKT88 solid plate and the JJ Kt77 as well as the JJ 300b not to mention KR tubes have proven up to the task on many occasions.
I still prefer my vintage black plates such as the TS 6550 and the genelex kt66 and the mullard el37 and RCA 6L6gc BP but when you compare the new tubes to their gray plate vintage counterparts, the gap is almost non existent as it once was.
I've made so many changes in the system that I thought it was worth trying the KT-77s again, so I pulled the Mullards and re-inserted them. MAJOR noise from the right channel. Must have been those pins, which I had "augmented" with a little solder so they wouldn't fall out of the sockets. They worked fine before but not now. Think I'll leave well enough alone.
I've run quads of both, as well as JJ E34L, Groove Tube EL34, Ei Fat Bottle, current production Mullard and vintage Mullard XF2. Also, I think a quad of EH EL34.The SED were my favorite. Now the KT-77 are. I haven't "rolled" output tubes in my rebuilt ST-70 in months and hear no reason to do so. The KT-77 are really superb.
