On page 27 of the Knight Tube Tester Manual, instruction #9 of the short test it says to "check the roll chart in the U up and D down columns for numbers in light face type". Then the instructions tell you how to move the levers to correspond with the light face numbers in the roll chart to test for shorts and leakage. The problem is, in the U and D columns "there is no light face type", so I really don't know how to test for shorts. How do I test for shorts?
Any help appreciated,
M.P.
Follow Ups:
Set the switches Up and Down as listed. Then you move all the levers that are centered up, one at a time. Some SHOULD light, which will be listed. For example, heater pin will light, showing continuity. Actually, if one the listed pins DOESN'T show "short", something is open. A few tubes (like 6BQ5) have connections that vary on the unused pins - some will show a "short" on these pins, some won't.
You could check for shorts with an ordinary multi-meter set for continuity or high resistance. Consult tube pin-outs for electrodes.
Hi Ron:
That will not hold true in all cases. Some tubes with shorts (or leakage between elements) only show it when the heater is hot.
