Does does anyone know what the matching preamp is to the knight KB85 amps..I have a pair of them upgraded with pios and new filter caps and el37 mullards and they are stunning in everyway.I would love to get a matching preamp.
Follow Ups:
Per the KB85 (AKA 83 YU 777) assy/user manual, the suggested preamp is....... the 83 YX 776 (AKA???). Price is $62.50 in 1958. Curiously, model# is nowhere to be found on the physical item itself.Front view below:

Not a very nice means of connecting to this thing. Certainly precludes audiophile approved cables.
BTW Mike: You mention using PIO caps in your KB85 rebuilds. How did you fit them on the boards??? Esp the 2uF phase inverter grid decoupler. I was able to just fit a decent metalized PP in this position.
Thanks Stevie..Now I hope I can find one..Its looks like a hell of a nice preamp..I like the fact it uses 12ay7s and 12au7s..
Now let's see if AG Tannebaum replies to my emails....grhughes- You wouldn't happen to have the assembly manual, would you? Is that one yours?
Thanks
...I know,I know, the "X" is next to the "C" on a QWERTY keyboard. The next great frontier is a better machine/human interface. i can't wait.
Michael- I suspect it is mine, whatever it is, 83YX776, 83YX768, or KP-50.I can email a picture!
Thanks Jim
My audio mentor wanted to give me the lafayette kt600 tube preamp and this was 25 years ago and he gave it away in 97 to a kid..I wish I had taken it because they are expensive now and sound fabulous.
