A model number would be the BEST clue, though... but, some possibilities...A.G. Tannenbaum has this:
ALLIED/KNIGHT 83YX768 STEREO PREAMP W FOLDOUTS ASSY/OP $24.00esW7FG.com has:
Knight-Kit 83-Y-778 Stereo Control $14
Knight-Kit 83-YU-916 Stereo Preamp $20
Knight-Kit 83-YX-929 Stereo Preamp $20Possible that it's in Sams, but hey, only about 25,000 folders to search - I'll get right on it...

And how about the one below?
Schematic? Assembly manual?I've emailed AG Tannenbaum, they list it.
These are worth resto ! They have low gain, but unique Passive Phono EQ, with great soundstage and speed in phono playback. Their line stage is good.
They are a pain to rebuild. The boards are tight fit. The stock power supply sucks poop, but when working right, these can sing nicely. The silver face is the same unit as the later greenish brown and gold face Allied unit.
The 754 mono units, circa 1955, are also worth resto. They have similar circuitry. Their mono power supplies will give better soundstage separation, wider and deeper.
First suspect on these are the selenium rectifiers, used for B+ and filament supply. The filament supply is bled off the B+ rail.
There was skimping on parts and parts quality. Those printed circuit controls are not great. The coupling caps are .1/100V stock garbage.
They MUST be replaced. .1/100V Vitamin Qs can fit ! Sprague Orange Drop Type 225, .1/100V fit nicely. The stock cathode bypass electros are terrible. There is an electro as a cathode coupling cap. It must be changed and upgraded. This is one of those units that deserve all those stock, crappy white caps, to get replaced.
Power supply capacitance needs beefing up; real estate is tight in there, but workable. Once fixed, besides patting yourselves on your backs, these are good sounders ! Good Luck...
I would tear into the rebuild, but I would like to have a schematic on hand before I start disconnecting circuit cards. This is a little tight to work with, but I think there is potential in it.
I really appreciate the tips!
I think that guy is mono, but has the same styling, so is within a couple years. There are concentric left right controls for treble, bass and level (with a separate master volume control knob on the right side of the unit.As for the previous email, I dont think it is the "Knight-Kit 83-Y-778 Stereo Control", because I think that one is a three knob passive volume/balance control to marry two mono amps in stereo (Like Dynaco did once for the PAM-1 or whatever that mono pre was called).
The other two are possibilities. I also found reference to 83YX776, 83YX768 as well as those two. I wonder if the -776 and -768 are the best candidates because of their # proximity to the mono unit -754 (as well as the -778 control) with the same period styling.
Thanks for the investigation assist. By the way, I am really liking the unit in operation.

From the Roger Russell site- Reviewed in Audio Magazine, April 1959. Right time frame.Wow, did you see what came out that year? Fisher 299, Dyna ST-70, etc....
