Time has come to re-tube,I tried JJ KT77's but flashbulbs are more reliable. Since I need an octet of tubes cost tends to make me stay with the EL34 type, though KT88's,6550's and KT90's are an option. I would like opinions of the "new" Mullards and the EH 6ca7. The 6V6's are the original Sinos and am curious if changing them out would offer any improvement. The drivers are Raytheon 5751 blackplates I got from Jim McShane a while back,of whom I can't speak highly enough.
The rest of the system is:
Audcom AP120 (TAD150) pre with Ei Elite 12ax7's
Rega Apollo CD player
and my venerable and well tweaked Dahlquist DQ10'sMain music is jazz
Thanks in advance,
John

Follow Ups:
I've had excellent results with Valve Art EL34Bs. I'm currently running those as output tubes with Shuguang 6l6s for drivers and Sovtek 12AX7LPS amplifier tubes. I'm using the TAD-150 pre(Sylvania JHS 12AT7WAs) with MG 12 speakers. My current source is a modded(by RAM) ShengYa CDS-10 with Amperex Orange Globe dimple getter 6DJ8s.Hope this helps!
Currently running new TS 6550's on the output with big bottle EH 6CA7s as the drivers and NOS RCA Cleartop 12AU7s in the inputs. Preamp is a TAD 150 with the EH 12AT7s. Paul has the EH BB 6CA7's for $59 for a sleeve of five(a quad with + a spare) which I have on order. Sources are LP12/Ittok/Benz Ace M and Denon DVD-2910 universal player.
So are you running the 6550's in V1 and V2 with the EH's in V3 and V4?
I didn't realize that 12au7's could be used as inputs,I have a pair of Mullards I tried in the pre but they sounded thin when I used them with my old SS amp

the 6V6 drivers are the EH Big Bottle 6CA7s, the inputs are the 12AU7s.
