is there a site that explains the different types of tube amps (set, push/pull, etc.) and their strengths and weaknesses?
Follow Ups:
This one does if you bother to perform a few searches, remarkably you are not the 1st to ask. Begin your archival search with *What's the difference between SET and push-pull amps?* posted by steve on July 05, 2001 in the Tubes forum. Read all replys in that thread. Also see *Beginner question of buying tube amp* posted by cktc on November 19, 2000, also posted in the Tubes forum. Again, read the entire thread. Then perform a few searches of your own, peraps not limiting your search results to just one forum catagory. The Asylum Search feature is located on the Asylum Home page or in the catagory list at top of this forum page. Also read the Asylum FAQ, Tubes section, Vacuum Tube Primer article.
See link below...
all the best,
mrh
on typical tube amp topologies. Some of the ones written for the vintage guitar amp restorer is one source for you. Drop by places like Antique Electronics Restoration and take a look at their library. If you'd like to surf around, then look for things like Williamson, Class A, Class A/B along with 'tube amp' and you should get some hits.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
